Kaepernick Hopes New Contract Allows 49ers To Still Keep Everyone

Oct 31, 2014 3:43 PM

Colin Kaepernick is entering the final season of his original four-year deal and could sign an extension with the San Francisco 49ers this offseason.

“I think it’s a balance,” Kaepernick said Thursday morning. “You want to be paid fairly for what you feel like you’re doing in comparison to your peers. But at the same time, you have to realize that if we want to get Anquan Boldin back, if we want Donte Whitner to come back, we’re going to have to make moves to get them back and there has to be room for everyone.

“And that’s something that I’m going to let my agent and the organization try to figure out. But, hopefully, it’s a (situation) where we can assemble the best team that we need.”

Kaepernick's focus this offseason will be on improving his game and not on his contract.

“To me, I’m trying to focus on what I need to do to get ready for next season and improve myself so I can help improve this offense and ultimately help win the Super Bowl,” Kaepernick said.

Kaepernick will work on his all-around game and not just his ability as a pocket passer.

“I think pocket passing is something is something that’s overlooked as far as what I do,” Kaepernick said. “I think people see me running around and they see me throwing on the run. They see me running down field and that’s just what he does.

“When you step up in the pocket and make a normal throw, it gets overlooked because you’re not running around. To me, it’s something, yes, you want to get better at that. I want to get better at throwing on the run, going through progressions quicker, I want to get better at everything. But I don’t think that (pocket passing) specifically is being addressed.”

“Absolutely. If that’s what needs to be done, that’s what needs to be done,” Fitzgerald said in an interview with Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910.

Cowboys Promote Rod Marinelli To Defensive Coordinator

Nov 2, 2014 12:43 AM

The Dallas Cowboys have promoted Rod Marinelli to become defensive coordinator, while keeping Monte Kiffin on the staff as assistant head coach/defense.

"Rod Marinelli's production in terms of creating turnovers and changing field position as a defensive coordinator is well documented." Jason Garrett said in the Cowboys' press release. "Monte Kiffin's overall knowledge and understanding of this defensive scheme will be put to use in mentoring all of the players and coaches on the defensive side of the ball. Monte was brought here to direct a transition in philosophy to the 4-3 scheme, and he will continue to oversee the development of our defense in this scheme."

Marinelli was defensive line coach of the Cowboys in 2013.

Charles Tillman To Enter Free Agency

Aug 8, 2014 5:04 AM

Charles Tillman will test free agency after 11 seasons with the Chicago Bears.

Tillman may still return to the Bears, but it is unlikely he will earn as much as the $7.95 million he made in 2013.

Tillman could join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be reunited with Lovie Smith.

Tillman will turn 33 next month, which is considerably old for a cornerback. Tillman could potentially move to safety.
